Indonesian maid (domestic worker) Nursip is a nanny, cook and a housekeeper too. She has worked in West Malaysia (Scudai and Seremban) for 4 years from 2002 to 2006 and in Singapore for 2 years from 2007 to 2009. Nursip is 35 years old and married with 3 children aged 17, 15 and 10. She is a widow and sole breadwinner.

She is now available for a quick hire.

Background
Nursip is from Mataram on the island of Lombok east of Bali. Her father is a farmer. She is 3rd among 6 children. She has a secondary education (9 years) and after 6 years working in West Malaysia (4 years) and Singapore (2 years) she can speak and understand some English.

Employment History

  1. Her first job was in Seremban, Negri Sembilan in West Malaysia. Her host family consisted of 6 persons including 4 children aged 1, 3, 5 and 7 years. Nursip took care of the toddler (the 1-year old) for most of the day. The other 3 spent time in school or nursery school. She went home after two years.

  2. She next went to work in Scudai, in Johore, for a Malay family with two children one of whom was 3 and the other a newborn. (Actually the baby was born a month after Nursip began working for the family. Madam was working and care of the children and housekeeping were left to Nursip. She worked there for 2 years, from 2002 to 2004. At the end of two years she went home and assumed the role of a housewife for the next three years.

  3. From Nov 07 until Oct 08 she worked for Kang PC's family of 5, including 3 adult children. One of the children was an invalid and had to be fed through a tube. Nursip spent two months at Tan Tock Seng Hospital learning to take care of her invalid charge. There Nursip learnt how to prepare food for the man who had to be fed via a tube. His illness was terminal and at the end of some 10 months the family had no need for Nursip's services.
  4. So Nursip transferred to another family headed by Connie. Nursip's main duty was to take care of Connie's elderly mother in her early 80's. The old lady was not sick but was rather frail and relied on Nursip for support when she walked even within the flat. She left after a year when her passport's expiry was imminent.

Childcare Experience
Nursip is a mother of three children herself and that helped when she went to work in Seremban where she had to take care of 2 children, aged 3 and a newborn and also when she went to work in Scudai where she had to take care of 4 children.

Care of the elderly/sick
In the 2 families she worked for in Singapore, she took care of an invalid and an elderly/frail woman in her early eighties. She was trained at Tan Tock Seng Hospital to care for the invalid man.

Cooking
She cooked for two Chinese families for a total of 4 years. She says her Chinese employers complimented her on her cooking. She also cooked Malay food for her Malay host family for two years.

Personality
Nursip is simply dressed and neat in appearance. She is alert and unassuming. I have to speak to her in Malay about half the time, when she takes too long to answer me in English.
