Filipino maid (domestic worker) Jeralyn Gabales is a nanny, cook and a housekeeper too. She is now available.

Background
From the province of Iloilo (a whole day from Manila by sea) she is 28 years old and single. Her late father used to be farmer. She the younger of two, the elder one being a boy. Jeralyn has 2 years of college education but could not continue when her father died.

Job History

  1. In the Philippines
    1. Her first job temporary, for 6 months, as a shop assistant.
    2. From Nov 02 to Mar 05 she worked as a cashier as Kentucky Fried Chicken and left to work in Singapore.

  2. From Mar 05 until Mar 09 she worked for 3 families in Singapore:
    1. For almost 3 years from Mar 05 to Dec 07 she work for a local Chinese family of 5: the parents and 3 children aged 8, 12 and 13 at the start. Madam working and left care of the children to Jeralyn. Besides attending the needs of the children, she also did the cooking, cleaning and laundry. She left when her grandmother died.
    2. In her position, Madam stayed at home. Jeralyn had one child aged 7 to care for. However, found it easier to care for 3 children in her previous job than this one child. She had to be fed. After 2 months Jeralyn threw in the towel and asked for a transfer.
    3. She transferred to a Bob, British expat, in Mar 08. Bob had to go back to UK for a few months. He did not want to let Jeralyn go but instead asked her to stay with a friend. Unfortunately Bob did not think to ask his friend to pay the foreign workers levy. Meanwhile MOM cancelled the work permit because of non-payment of the FWL. So in effect Jeralyn was working illegally without knowing it. MOM permits her to continue working in Singapore subject to a new WP being issued.

Childcare
Jeralyn has taken care of 4 children with ages ranging from 7 to 14, the 7-year old for 2 months and the rest for 2¾ years. She is fond of children. Besides attending to their physical needs she also read to them, helped them in their homework and played with them when time permited. She got along well with the children in her charge. She remembers in particular the 8-years (Employer 1) she took care of for almost 3 years. She is confident she can also care of children younger than those she has cared for, including infants under one year old - even though she has no experience with them.

Cooking
Some of the dishes she has cooked for her host families include:

  • Chicken curry, Chicken rice, Fried chicken, Grilled, Roast, Steamed
  • Sweet and sour pork, fried pork, Stewed pork in soya sauce, Pork Chop, Pork rib soup, Steamed minced pork with egg,

  • Beef steak (grilled) and Mashed potato
  • Salads

Personality
Jeralyn is neat and tidy in appearance. She is simply dressed. She speaks and understands English quite well. (She has 2 years of college education.) She thinks is better at cooking than at childcare but will be just as happy to be mainly a childminder.
